Zafira Roze is my metaphysical pseudonym or witch name. A witch name may be chosen or given to you upon initiation into a coven depending on the tradition you practice. It can also be a magical signifier that is to be kept private or only shared within your circle. It could also be a pen name to protect yourself, your family, or your assets. Many practitioners find their inspiration from nature; a plant, animal, stone, land, sea, sky. Some traditions avoid using the name of gods or goddesses, while others embrace it.  As with everything in the craft, there are no rules and it is not required.

Zafira is a feminine name of Arabic origin that means victorious, successful, or triumphant. Derived from the Arabic root dha-f-r, it signifies achievement and is often used to symbolize a prosperous future. It is also associated with the Greek/Hebrew term for sapphire (blue stone). My birthstone is sapphire, and even though birthstones were created by the jewelry industry, I still feel a connection to it. Rose is of Latin origin symbolizing love, beauty, and purity. It is also the name of my paternal grandmother from Calabria, Italy, with whom I spent every Saturday with as a child. 

I recommend keeping a list of possible name(s) and performing an internet search to see what or who may be associated with it. As it turns out, Zafira Rose is a vibrant hot pink variety of roses. It is also the name of a racehorse; while an alternate spelling: Safire Rose, is a poet and author.
